Exploring Pensacola, Florida: Celestine Bed and Breakfast's Guide to Some of the Area's Hidden Gems

Welcome to our very first blog post! As proud owners of Celestine Bed and Breakfast, in the charming of Pensacola, Florida, we are thrilled to share our insider knowledge and passion for this beautiful region. Whether you’re planning your first visit or are a returning guest, our guide to hidden gems will help you discover the unique and authentic experiences that make Pensacola truly special.

1. The Secret Beaches

While Pensacola Beach is undoubtedly stunning, there are quieter, lesser-known beaches that offer a more secluded and peaceful experience. Opal Beach, located within the Gulf Islands National Seashore, is a perfect spot for a tranquil beach day with its pristine sands and clear waters. Another hidden treasure is Johnson Beach on Perdido Key, where you can enjoy the natural beauty away from the crowds and immerse yourself in the serenity of the Gulf Coast. Both of these beaches have minimal entry fees. We suggest purchasing an annual National Park Pass for admission to these and other national parks across the U.S.

2. Local Art and Craftsmanship

Pensacola is home to a vibrant community of artists and craftsmen. A visit to First City Art Center offers a chance to see local art, attend workshops, and even create your own masterpiece. Don’t miss the Palafox Market, held every Saturday in downtown Pensacola, where you can find handcrafted goods, local produce, and delicious homemade treats. This market is just blocks away from Celestine Bed and Breakfast, and serves as a hub for local artisans and a perfect spot to find unique souvenirs. Most of our guests walk over before or after breakfast on Saturdays.

3. Culinary Adventures

For food enthusiasts, Pensacola offers a culinary scene that’s rich in local flavors and fresh seafood. Guests at Celestine Bed and Breakfast are treated to a delightful, artisanal breakfast each morning of their stay. For lunch, you may consider heading to The Fish House, a local spot known for its waterfront views and mouth-watering Grits à Ya Ya. End your day with a romantic stroll from Celestine Bed and Breakfast's front steps to Restaurant Iron, a fine dining restaurant that specializes in farm-to-table cuisine with a Southern flair and contemporary twist. We highly recommend sitting at the chef's counter!

4. Outdoor Escapes

Nature lovers will find plenty to explore in Pensacola. Take a scenic hike through the trails at Big Lagoon State Park, home to diverse wildlife and beautiful coastal landscapes. For a more adventurous outing, rent a kayak and paddle through the serene waters of the Blackwater River, where you can spot wildlife and enjoy the peaceful surroundings.

5. Historical Treasures

Step back in time and explore the rich history of Pensacola. The Historic Pensacola Village offers a glimpse into the city’s past with its beautifully preserved buildings and museums. The National Naval Aviation Museum, one of the largest aviation museums in the world, provides an immersive experience into the history of naval aviation. While you're at NAS Pensacola, a visit to Fort Barrancas will take you on a journey through Pensacola’s military history, with its well-preserved fortifications and informative exhibits.
